Arc of Bay County Fall Bulletin
Membership Update
The Arc of Bay County is proud to have about 110 dedicated members, including individuals, families, and businesses. Some members have been with us since the beginning—maybe even as far back as 1952! As we continue to grow, we’re excited to announce a Membership Dinner planned for February 2025. This gathering will give members a chance to connect, learn about our latest programs, activities, and future goals. Plus, it’s an opportunity to nominate board members who will represent your interests! Look out for a “save the date” after the holidays.
Medicare/Medicaid ALERT!
Big changes are coming for dual-eligible Medicare and Medicaid members. Some popular plans, including United Health Care, Aetna, and WellCare, will end coverage in 2025. Here’s what you need to know:
- These plans, previously offering up to $200 per month for essentials, will not be available next year.
- If you’ve previously worked with a Case Manager through Bay-Arenac Behavioral Health or other agencies, but now find yourself without support, consider reviewing your options. You can switch plans every 30 days.
- For assistance, call Michigan’s Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program at (800) 858-1637, visit medicare.gov, or reach us at (989) 893-1346.
End-of-Year Giving
As we near year’s end, consider supporting The Arc of Bay County! We’re a Thrivent “Donor Choice” organization, and contributions to our endowment fund at Bay Area Community Foundation help us build a sustainable future. Got a fundraising idea? Reach out to discuss ways to make a difference. We are a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible organization.
Independent Facilitation
Our facilitators provide support at no cost for person-centered planning sessions, helping participants with budgeting and service coordination. With contracts established for 2025 across several regional mental health organizations, our facilitators ensure that everyone’s voice is heard in the planning process. Representative Payee Services
For those needing help managing Social Security benefits, our Rep Payee program builds personalized budgets and ensures basic needs are met. Lead Rep Payee Karen Cramer works closely with individuals to set up routine payments for essentials. Congratulations to Karen and Laura Roth on their second anniversary with us! Educational Advocacy
Educational advocate Jan Lampman is here to assist families navigating school challenges. She works daily to build relationships with schools, ensuring every child’s right to a Free and Appropriate Public Education. If a child you know is struggling, contact Jan at (989) 859-0173.
Bay County Neighborhood Watch
In partnership with the Bay County Sheriff and Mike Bristow, we’re supporting the re-introduction of the Neighborhood Watch program. Receive a checklist and a window sign to increase community safety, especially for those with DD/IDD who may need extra support. For details, call Laura at (989) 893-1346.
Christmas Giving
As winter approaches, we welcome donations like gift cards for items ranging from clothing to groceries. Small gestures—a sandwich, coffee, or $10 gift card—can make someone’s day. Help spread some holiday cheer!
