The Business of The Arc of Bay County

The Arc of Bay County Michigan advocates for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to achieve, participate, and become an integrated part of their community.

In conjunction with the Arc at the State and National levels, The Arc of Bay County Michigan believes in opportunity for everyone to hope, dream, grow, and to be valued and contributing members of their communities.

Dear Members & Friends

It’s been six weeks since we launched Friends and Neighbors. Designed to reduce loneliness and funded in part by a grant from the Bay Area Community Foundation, we are partnering with others in our community and looking for activity sponsors.

Please consider donating to this effort or pick a project and join us.

In just these first few weeks you can see the difference that getting out and doing “something” has for a person with an intellectual disability.

We started with bowling, because for years, The Arc of Bay County had a league. Drop in at Monitor Lanes on Wednesdays at 2 PM each week. We’re filling up more lanes!

Next craft workshop is 11/17 at the Community Center and more programs are in the works as we approach the New Year!

Representative Payee Service

180 people rely on The Arc of Bay County to pay their basic need bills using Social Security Administration’s Rep Payee program. In exchange, each person pays us $57.

In October:

  • We helped 17 secure different housing
  • Went to court 2x to prevent evictions
  • Assisted a mother through the birth process, NICU and foster care for her infant child
  • 3 people died
  • 4 people are incarcerated
  • Reduced or prevented financial exploitation for numerous persons
  • Connected 38 people with emergency food assistance

We made referrals to Department on Aging, Adult/Child Protective Services, Bay-Arenac Behavioral Health, Guardianship Alternatives, Foster Navigation, probate court, and assisted anyone with an intellectual disability along with family, case workers and others to complete paperwork for entitlement benefits, Bridge Cards, Medicaid, and more.

End of Year Reminders from Karen Cramer – Your Representative Payee

  1. Christmas $ will be available before Thanksgiving.
  2. Social Security Administration will issue the cost of living increase for 2027 soon, I’m sure everyone will appreciate a few extra dollars.
  3. Please call if you’re in the hospital, nursing home, on vacation away from home or if you’re thinking of moving.
  4. Call us when your case manager or others need a budget, bank statement or health insurance information. We will supply it electronically to MDHHS so you don’t lose your benefits.
  5. If you’re ready to be your own payee, or if you want someone else to be your payee please call us and we’ll guide you through the process.

Educational Advocacy

Funded in part by Arc Michigan, and under contract Jan Lampman provides children, families and school staff in Bay, Arenac and Tuscola counties with educational advocacy to ensure that a student’s disability is not a barrier to a free and appropriate education.

This service is available for ages 0-26.

To make a referral, call Michigan Alliance for Families: 1-800-552-4821
